Holy Jesus on a T Rex

"So, you want to move?" she said as I poured over recent video's of some SoCal surf.
"Yeah, wouldn't mind spending a bit more time in the Sun" I muttered. I knew where this was going. I had talked about moving out of this wonderful but very wet place for the last three years.
"Well, where to do you think?"
"I don't know but it's got to South of here and West of the Mississippi"

Right. She isn't going anywhere, family, 5th Generation, Stella is 6th...

She clicks on a bookmark, " I have been thinking..."

Gonna need a bigger boat.
Seems the Land of Rain and Not much else is
getting to her. There is something to be said about the rain and weather on this coast, it will steal your days. So much of what we do is weather related and if its raining 9 months out of the year, might as well count that against the time you have on this Earth.
The rain will steal your days.
Sure, we rationalize, its not raining that hard, I am not that wet, its a warm rain...
But a 60 knot wind out of the South...and this Summer that never came...
Yeah.

So to move now, with Stella being 7, makes sense. Miss family? Yes but only the three I really like.
I miss the Sun more.
Now, for those of you who like to be anon and say good riddance puss lips...thanks for saying good bye, a bit early but its a good omen.

Santa Cruz is on my short list for sure, Crystal likes the town too so it was an easy sell.
We would have to cash out here to barely get by there but in the end, I would gladly go back to some kind of work for better weather and less elderly screaming 'get offa my lawn you kids!'.
We still lack a decent skatepark here yet Reedsport is world class.
Blame the old conservative redneck, small gene pool residents of Coos.

As to Oz...I have been there three times for surf and travel, liked it but didn't love it.
But the weather...oh yeah. And we all know what the surf is like. You don't get more world class surfers than anywhere else without some decent surf.
Doable.
Need a bigger boat.
To get there.
Its going to be a long process wherever we go, many ties here, financially and family.
But the idea is sold and with that comes planning and decisions.
Make it happen.
Meanwhile, we will suffer through another cold long winter here, staying off the old peoples lawns and wishing.

In other news...I put my pants on backwards this morning. Really.
Its dark dammit.
Looking for surf today, need to keep them toes fresh for Saturdays trip North.
I have never surfed North of a certain bay except in 1978 when I came up for a contest at Seaside.
I don't know shit about South Beach.
I can find it though.
lolz

Ever notice how older, say 18 and up people have a hard time learning to surf? Something to do with size I have always thought. Trouble getting up, catching waves, thinking outside of themselves when it comes to the Ocean.
I recently spent a lot of time with such a beginner. Had maybe 10 surf trips under their belt in mostly crappy surf. The pop up was a knee dragging affair, awkward, clumsy. Never mind being aware of what the wave is doing.
But a trip to decent surf changed all of that. That same knee dragging pop up is now a 'pop' and to their feet. They are 28, 5"7" and about 140.
Natural athletic ability and strength.
I have seen kids progress quickly, never an adult.
Natural athletic ability goes a long way.
Remember that the next time you drag a beginner out into the shorebreak for a beating.

Well, off to make lunches, check the surf buoys, check the tide forecast for South Beach-which does me no good really not knowing the spot.
XXXXX was kind enough to loan me the 10'0"s little brother so I have a spare log.
I am trying to get the stringerless speeder board back for the trip but no luck.
Right now, conditions favor the guy who can surf slop.
Its Oregon, every one can surf slop.
In the rain.

That's what is fit for this blog, see ya and have a wonderful day.
Really, I mean that.
