Wednesday

Before the tourists left...

I told them that NorCal was expecting a blow, winds to 50 knots and such...
This morning, I got a call from TJ the driver...
"Oh My GOD!"
Me: Is it windy?
TJ: Are you fucking kidding?
Me: Where are ya?
TJ: XXXX XXX!
Me: Ya didn't get very far
TJ: ACKKK!!!

Driving a high top van in the wind is just like flying a plane, ya gotta crab a bit...
She didn't get it.
Oh well.

Off and glassing the new SUP.
9'2" by 29", 24" nose, 19" tail.
Stringerless...well sorta.
I inserted high density 9 lb foam down the middle to increase the blanks width, put in custom rocker, the glue lines act like a stringer and the flex right now is comparable to a stringered blank.
I am using a 6x6x6 deck, a 4x4 bottom with a tail patch. I might also run 4 inches of cloth down 2/3rds of the rail, most boards break from the rail line so...
I went stringerless because I really enjoy the flex. The 9'2" I shaped and surfed last week, the board with only nose and tail stringers, it flexes to flat when laying on a floor. Stella stood on the tail, my fat ass on the nose and the board flexed to flat with no creases or buckles.
On one of the few rights I got last week, the board went flat when I stepped up to the nose on a head high face, the speed was amazing.
How long will a stringerless longboard last?
That depends on how smart the surfer is and how bad they treat the board.
The SUP will go through much more abuse hence the rail wrap though if I get skeered I can still insert ply stringers where I need them at any time.
We shall see.
Off to check it, been a few days, at least the water has warmed up to 51.

Zooey Dechanel gives me the warm and fuzzies....

Z Girl with a 1926 Liberty banjo uke...she is tuning it because they never stay in tune...
